Why I use the word Neurodiverse
There is a subtle but important distinction between the terms neurodivergent and neurodiverse. Neurodivergent typically refers to individuals whose brains function differently due to innate neurological conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or dyslexia. However, neurological differences are not always present from birth. Individuals who have experienced significant trauma may also exhibit lasting changes in cognitive processing and brain function. The term neurodiverse is more inclusive, encompassing both those born with atypical neurological profiles and those whose neurocognitive differences arise from life experiences such as trauma.
Coaching vs Therapy
An easy way to comprehend the differences between coaching and therapy is to perceive their respective focus as past and future. Therapy focuses on your past, on why you are the way that you are. Coaching focuses on your future, what you want to accomplish and what's blocking you.
Neurolinguistic programming
Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) is the study of what works. It is an ever evolving branch of life coaching that analyses a person's perspective through the language they use. By seeking precision of language, we can bring a lot of clarity and understanding to the way a person's mind function.
The Urgency of Neuroinclusion
The need for neuroinclusivity in the workplace is becoming increasingly urgent as mental health challenges rise at an unprecedented rate across society. Factors such as chronic stress, economic instability, social isolation, climate anxiety, and the lasting psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to a surge in anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other cognitive and emotional conditions. As a result, a growing portion of the workforce is experiencing neurocognitive differences—whether due to trauma, burnout, or lifelong conditions like ADHD and autism. Traditional work environments and expectations often fail to accommodate these diverse neurological experiences, leading to disengagement, reduced productivity, and high turnover. Embracing neuroinclusivity is not just a matter of equity; it is a strategic imperative for organizations seeking to build resilient, innovative, and sustainable teams.
